Town of Mukwonago candidates sound off during forum this evening

Three Town of Mukwonago residents are vying for two supervisors seats and sounded off their views on how the town should progress during a candidate forum this evening at Town Hall, hosted by the Mukwonago Area Chamber of Commerce.

Tom Stefanowski, Ruth Ann Nicoson and Todd Werginz each had two minutes to answer eight questions that were prepared by the chamber; some of which revolved around potential commercial growth in the town.

Werginz said that while “I understand the premise that it would create a larger tax bracket,” he would like to see the town keep its rural feel.

Nicoson referred back to a 2002 Smart Growth Survey that was conducted in the town and stated that at that time, residents were split in half for and against growth. “At this point, we have the new (Highway 83). I'm open to looking at the idea (of allowing commercial growth in the town), and allowing the citizens of the town to make their feelings known. Ultimately it is their decision,” she said.

Stefanowski stated that “we need the residents to come to plan commission meetings and town board meetings so we know what they want and what they’d like us to do. Without their input, things will not improve in the town.”
