No reason given for Moderacki resignation
Village of Mukwonago - The village will be looking for a new village administrator in the coming months, as Paul Moderacki resigned from the post, effective Oct. 23.
Moderacki had been on administrative leave since Sept. 20 while a personnel matter was being reviewed. This was the second time he had been on administrative leave in the last year and a half.
Moderacki declined to comment on the reasons behind his resignation, but simply said he had retired.
Village President Fred Winchowky also declined to comment on the leave and resignation. Other village trustees declined to comment, and questions to Winchowky or did not return calls or emails.
The Chief is seeking additional information about Moderacki's resignation through an open-records request with the village.
Moderacki started with the village Jan. 1, 2009. During his tenure, he was involved with getting the Mukwonago Community Library addition and improvements off the ground and viable. Additionally, he helped complete the comprehensive land-use plan for the village, which included key items the village needs to consider, involving transportation and economic development, Moderacki said.
His biggest accomplishments lay in getting the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to "come to the table and work with the village" regarding rerouting Highway 83 through the downtown area. Moderacki also assisted in partnering with the Chamber of Commerce, which "breathed new life into the cooperative spirit," between the chamber and the Village Board. Moderacki said he hopes that working relationship continues.
Additionally, Moderacki said he helped with updating and revising the sign code for the village, as well as refinancing a number of loans at lower rates and paying off some early to save the village several hundreds of thousands of dollars.
"I hope the good things that were started continue and the village continues to improve while keeping the tax levy as modest as possible," he said.
Winchowky said the Village Board will discuss the process for filling the vacant position over the next couple of months. In the short term, Village Clerk Treasurer Steve Braatz is "basically running things in the office now," with department heads reporting directly to the appropriate committee chairman, Winchowky said.
