Pewaukee's varsity football team scored five first half toouchdowns Friday night and ended up rolling over visiting Nicolet in the season-opening game for both teams, 40-0.

The game was called with 4:56 remaining when the officials stopped the battle due to lightning. Rather than delay the game, Nicolet coach Everett Jenkins decided to stop the game right there with the score being so lopsided.

Derek Watt scored the game's first touchdown on a 6-yard pass from Patrick Bacon with 7:39 left in  the first period and the rout was on. Other scoring for Pewaukee were Bryan Spakowicz on a 2-yard run, Watt on a 74-yard touchdown pass from Bacon, Watt on an 8-yard run, Mike Olewinski on a 17-yard interception return and Spakowicz on a 77-yard run.

Turning in big games on defense for the Pirates were Spakowicz, Watt, Olewinski, Brad Kaatz and Chris Jasinski.

The win by Pewaukee was their 11th in the last 12 games.
