Waukesha – A judge this afternoon reduced the bail for Chad Lurvey, accused of killing two men seven years ago, from $1.5 million to $500,000

Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge J. Mac Davis ordered the bail be reduced stating Lurvey is a long time resident of the county and his family is known in the area. Lurvey is a member of the family that operates Lurvey Farms off Highway.67 in the Town of Ottawa.

Lurvey, 35, is also serving 8-years on probation for a 2003 conviction on drug charges. Davis said Lurvey is currently under the control of the state Department of Corrections because of that conviction and he has complied with all the department's rules.

Davis also said his review of the criminal complaint and transcript of the preliminary hearing led him to believe the state's case "does not appear to be a slam dunk."

Lurvey is charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide for killing Brian Lazzaro and Andrew Long, both 25, and formerly of Town of Mukwonago in August 2002.

The men were  shot and stabbed and their bodies discovered in a pond on the Lurvey property. The men were last seen alive with Lurvey on Aug. 24, 2002.

Lurvey also entered a not guilty plea to the charges.
