Deadline extended for Waukesha County sheriff nomination papers
Candidates for Waukesha County Sheriff in the November general election can file nomination papers up to 5 p.m. Thursday, Waukesha County Clerk Kathleen Novack said Monday.
Monday's deadline for submitting nomination signatures was extended three days because Sheriff Dan Trawicki had not filed a formal declaration of noncandidacy by the May 23 deadline, Novack said.
Trawicki, a three-term veteran Sheriff, announced in January that he would not seek a fourth term.
Candidates must submit nomination papers with a minimum of 500 signatures and no more than 1,000 signatures by the Thursday deadline.
Two Republican candidates for sheriff have completed nomination papers. Waukesha County Sheriff's Inspector Eric Severson and Tom Alioto, a former sergeant with the Lisbon Police Department, will face off in an Aug. 12 partisan primary with the top vote getter moving on to the Nov. 4 ballot.
There is no Democratic candidate at this time.
