Another day, another Republican candidate in the District 97 state assembly race.
A day after former city of Waukesha alderman and realtor Scott Allen announced his candidacy for the seat, Vince Trovato, a longtime Waukesha resident, announced his intentions for the position.
Trovato joins a crowded GOP field that includes city of Waukesha alderman Aaron Perry, former town of Waukesha supervisor Joe Banske, Humana consultant Brandon Rosner and Allen.
A Republican primary will be held Aug. 12.
No Democrats have filed yet for the position. Chuck Schilling, a self-employed contractor, has filed for the Libertarian Party.
The winner of the Nov. 4 election will replace Rep. Bill Kramer (R-Waukesha), who is not seeking re-election amid sexual assault charges in Waukesha County.
Trovato, 32, has been active in Waukesha County’s Republican Party over the years. He served on the Executive Board for the Waukesha County Republican Party and coordinated campaign efforts for the Wisconsin GOP’s efforts on John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign.
He also served as a policy adviser in the office of Assembly Assistant Majority Leader Dan Knodl during the 2011-12 legislative session.
When Trovato was a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he was an intern for Gov. Scott Walker, who was in the state assembly at the time.
Most recently, Trovato worked with the International Republican Institute in Juba, South Sudan. His duties included designing part platforms, authoring communications strategies and working with South Sudanese political parties in their attempt to forge a working democracy in the world's newest nation.
Trovato has a degree in International Studies and History from UW-Madison. He graduated from Waukesha West High School in 2000.
The 97th Assembly District includes the southern half of the city of Waukesha, the southwestern portion of the town of Waukesha, the southeastern portion of the town of Genesee and the northeastern portion of the town of Mukwonago.
