Deputies say they were forced to use Taser on man who reported mom's death
A man Waukesha County sheriff deputies say they were forced to stun with a Taser while responding to a report of his mother's death could face municipal or criminal charges stemming from the incident, authorities said Sunday.
Mark Lake, 41, of Eagle found his 76-year-old mother's body Thursday morning. Lake called 911, but became threatening when rescue workers arrived at her home, Sheriff's Lt. Tom Moerman said.
"He refused to let anyone near his mother," Moerman said.
Lake threatened emergency workers with a large glass object and was Tased, pepper-sprayed, handcuffed and arrested, Moerman said.
Lake did not immediately return multiple requests for comment on Saturday.
Earlier he told the Waukesha Freeman that he was bringing his mother breakfast about 8 a.m. and found her body outside her home. He carried her into the house, placed her on a couch and called 911, he said.
He said he was praying over her when rescue workers arrived. A deputy ordered him to move away from her body.
Lake told the Freeman that he refused, but did not threaten anyone.
"I stayed by my mom," he said, according to the paper. "I thought there was a chance I could help her yet."
Then a deputy "went nuts with the Taser," Lake told the Freeman.
Moerman said Lake was questioned at sheriff's headquarters and later released.
Both the woman's death and the altercation in her home remain under investigation, Moerman said.
