Waukesha County judge seals divorce file for state Assembly hopeful

Waukesha County Circuit Judge Lloyd Carter has sealed the file in the ongoing divorce case of Assembly candidate Jeanne Tarantino.
Tarantino, 46, has alleged in a deposition in the case that she was the victim of age and gender discrimination when she was bounced as chief of staff to Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch last year. Tarantino has since apologized for the remark but not recanted it.
Staffers for Kleefisch and Gov. Scott Walker have denied that Tarantino was discriminated against.
Carter did not return calls explaining why he sealed the file.
In a statement, Tarantino said she "immediately regretted" saying under oath that she was transferred from Kleefisch's office because of her age and gender. She repeated the remark later in the deposition.
The Republican candidate was on the stand in the divorce case on Jan. 16, and it is not known if Tarantino was asked about these matters. The transcript of her testimony would be subject to the secrecy order.
Tarantino is one of five Republicans running for an open seat in the conservative 98th Assembly District. The primary is Feb. 19.
