Pewaukee school sets Sandy Hook benefit concert
A benefit rock concert is being planned at the Pewaukee High School auditorium later this month to help the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims in Connecticut.
Rock 2 Remember will begin at 2 p.m. Jan. 27 and is open to the public with a $10 minimum donation at the door. The concert, which will feature various genres, from rock to acoustic or instrumental, is best suited for those ages 14 and older, according to organizers.
The concert will feature local and student musicians, who are donating their time, said Mike Callies, an organizer and a teacher at Pewaukee High School, 510 Lake St., in Pewaukee.
Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Newtown Memorial Fund to help victims' families with immediate needs, help create a memorial to the victims, and establish a scholarship fund for the classmates of the victims and future generations.
Twenty first-graders and six educators were killed at their school last Dec. 14 before the gunman killed himself.
The Jan. 27 concert in Pewaukee has a Facebook page.
