Waukesha - A 61-year-old Genesee man was charged Friday with first-degree reckless injury in an attack Wednesday that left his wife with cuts on her face and neck.

Ronald A. Sallmann also was charged with shoving or striking police/fire animals and resisting or obstructing an officer.

Sallmann was arrested about 1:25 a.m. Thursday by members of the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department tactical unit after a standoff at his home that began Wednesday night.

Sheriff's deputies had gone to his home after they were notified about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by staff at a hospital that Sallmann's wife was being treated for severe cuts to her face and neck. The woman, 60, was cut during a domestic dispute, the sheriff's department said.

Sallmann refused to come out of his home. After tactical unit members entered the home, Sallmann attempted to fight with a sheriff's canine and suffered a puncture wound to his leg, the department said.

He was treated at Waukesha Memorial Hospital and taken to the county jail.

Sallmann made his initial appearance in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Friday afternoon and he was ordered held on $100,000 bail.

Court Commissioner Thomas J. Pieper ordered Sallmann to have no contact with his wife or her residence and not to possess any knives or weapons, according to court records.
